Abstract:

Objective: Repair of an indirect restoration is usually preferred over its replacement. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of silane in different surface preparation techniques on the bond strength of direct to indirect composite resin.   Methods: For this in vitro experimental study, 48 indirect composite cubes were fabricated, divided into 4 groups of 12 and subjected to the following preparation techniques: Group 1. Sandblasting with 50μaluminum oxide particles (SB), Group 2. Sandblasting+ silanization (SB+Sil), Group 3. Etching with 9.5% hydrofluoric (HF) acid, Group 4. Etching with 9.5% HF acid+ silanization (HF+Sil). Before the restoration process, specimens were subjected to 500 thermal cycles and received surface preparations. Single Bond adhesive was applied to the surface in all groups. Specimens were restored with direct composite resin and stored in an incubator at 37°C for 24h. Fracture was induced in the specimens by an Instron machine and the shear bond strength was measured. Data were converted to mega Pascal and analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc.   Results: The highest shear bond strength was 13.85 (2.75) MPa and belonged to group 1 while the lowest bond strength was 8.43 (1.35) MPa and observed in group 2.   Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, composite surface preparation by sandblasting yields more favorable results than HF acid etching and application of silane can also increase the bond strength.

Micro-Shear Bond Strength of Indirect Composite Resin to Three Different Computer-Milled Cores After Thermocycling

Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the micro-shear bond strength of an indirect composite resin to three different types of cores. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro study, 14 blocks (5×5×2 mm) were designed and milled by computer from cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy, zirconia, and polyether ether ketone (PEEK). Each sample was treated according to the manufacturer’s ...

Evaluation of different surface treatment on shear bond strength of composite to E max porcelain (in-vitro)

Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the shear bond strengthof composite to Emax porcelain using different methods of ceramic surface preparation (in vitro). Material and Methods: In this laboratory study, 36 porcelain disks were made and divided into four equal groups. The first group was prepared by sandblasting with 50 micron alumina particles, in the second group rec...

Comparing the shear bond strength of direct and indirect composite inlays in relation to different surface conditioning and curing techniques

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to test the null hypothesis that different surface conditioning (etch and rinse and self-etch) and curing techniques (light cure/dual cure) had no effect on the shear bond strength of direct and indirect composite inlays. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 112 extracted human molar teeth were horizontally sectioned and randomly divided into two groups accordi...

Comparison of shear bond strength of orthodontics brackets on composite resin restorations with different surface treatments.

INTRODUCTION Orthodontic patients frequently present composite resin restorations, however there are few studies that evaluate the best way for orthodontic bonding in this situation. OBJECTIVE The objective of this work was to evaluate the bond strength of orthodontic brackets in resin restorations with surface treatment. METHODS Fifty one bovine lower incisors were randomly divided into th...

Evaluation of microtensile bond strength of repaired dental resin composite using different surface treatment techniques: A laboratory study

Background and Aims: Today, resin composites are one of the most commonly used materials in restorative dentistry. However, failure in resin treatments is also common due to its chemical nature and its high talent for decay recurrence. According to conservative approaches, "conservative" treatments are more likely to be considered than "Replacement" of damaged remedies. The purpose of this stud...
